Reducing Skunk Scent From A Dog

The early "best treatment" for removing the scent of skunk spray from a dog was a "tomato-juice bath". Some claimed adding some vinegar would help.

Massengil douche was a definite improvement over the tomato-juice bath.

The "latest greatest" treatment consists of a mixture of one-quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide; 1/4 cup baking soda; and one teaspoon liquid detergent soap. This breaks the chemical bond of skunk scent.

Caution: This must be freshly mixed when being used. Don't attempt to tightly store a premixed batch.
